Hybrid & EV Battery Error Code Guide

Identify Battery Problems & Get the Right Fix

Hybrid and EV systems can log fault codes when the battery is not performing correctly. These codes help point to common issues like battery pack failure, cooling problems, sensor faults, or high voltage safety concerns so you can choose the right solution.

P0AA6-526-612 – Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault (Toyota Prius)

SYMPTOMS:

  • “Check Hybrid System” warning
  • Vehicle may not start
  • Inverter may disable hybrid operation for protection

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

  • High-voltage insulation/ground fault in the battery system or wiring
  • Moisture intrusion, corrosion, or physical damage in HV battery casing

P0A08 – DC/DC Converter Inside of Battery (Toyota Camry Hybrid TC1 ONLY)

SYMPTOMS:

  • 12V system not charging correctly
  • Multiple warning lights may appear
  • No-start condition possible

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

  • DC/DC converter fault within the HV battery assembly
  • In most cases, battery replacement is required

P0A93 – Inverter “A” Cooling System Performance

SYMPTOMS:

  • Hybrid warning light comes on
  • “Check Engine” light may appear
  • High-voltage system may run hotter than normal
  • Reduced output / limited performance

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

  • Low inverter coolant level
  • Failed inverter coolant pump
  • Air trapped in the cooling circuit
  • Wiring fault or poor electrical connection in the pump circuit

P0AC4 – Hybrid Powertrain Control Module Requested MIL Illumination

    SYMPTOMS:

    • “Check Engine” light is illuminated
    • Other symptoms depend on what triggered the code

    POSSIBLE CAUSES:

    • General “request” code showing the hybrid control system detected a fault — root cause is usually stored in additional trouble codes
    • Potential weak/failing module within the hybrid battery system
    • Loose, corroded, or poor electrical connection in the hybrid powertrain circuit

      CUSTOMER FEEDBACK

Trusted by Hybrid & EV Owners Nationwide

Found them through internet search. Requested mobile installation. They called back within 2 hours to set up an appointment. Turns out they had a shop near me, which saved me 50% on installation cost. Took about an hour.

Prompt, quick, professional service. So much cheaper than getting another car. I would highly recommend their service to anyone who needs a hybrid battery replacement.

I was so grateful that my friend told me about this company. What I thought was going to be a $8,500.00 repair, as quoted to me by my regular auto shop, turned into a $2,400.00 repair. I will be forever grateful to Greentec EV & Hybrid Batteries. Thank you guys so much. Their customer service was excellent over the phone, and my experience with the technician that came to my home to do the repair was also excellent. I can’t thank you all enough. You really saved me!!

The hybrid battery on my Prius started dying and I managed to drive to the shop so I left it with them and told me they’ll finish it by tomorrow at 11am but they done it a lot earlier and faster than I expected. The car was running great again with the purchased of 12 month warranty remanufactured. I’m highly satisfied with the work they’ve done and I recommended them big time.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Hybrid and EV fault codes—technically known as Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)—are alerts generated by your vehicle’s on-board computer. They highlight specific irregularities within the powertrain, battery pack, or electrical systems. These codes allow technicians to pinpoint issues such as:
      • High-voltage battery degradation
      • Inverter or converter malfunctions
      • Charging system faults
      • Regenerative braking inefficiencies

      Common codes include:
      • P0A80: Replace Hybrid Battery Pack
      • P0A7F: Hybrid Battery Pack Deterioration
      • P0AC0: Hybrid Battery Pack Current Sensor Circuit Low
If your dashboard displays a warning light, we recommend using an OBD2 reader to identify the specific code or consulting a specialist.
There are several tell-tale signs that your high-voltage battery may be reaching the end of its lifespan:
      • Reduced Fuel Efficiency: You may notice the petrol or combustion engine engaging more frequently to compensate for the lack of electric power.
      • Warning Lights: Dashboard alerts or specific error codes (such as P0A80) usually indicate a system fault.
      • Difficulty Starting: A deteriorating battery may struggle to hold a sufficient charge, leading to ignition issues.
      • Performance Drop: You might experience a lack of power during acceleration or find that the vehicle struggles to stay in EV mode.
      • Audible Fan Noise: If the battery cooling fan is running loudly or constantly, it may be trying to cool overheating cells.
If you suspect an issue, we recommend booking a diagnostic check to confirm the battery’s health.
We strongly advise against driving if your vehicle is displaying a significant hybrid error code, particularly P0A80 (Replace Hybrid Battery). Continuing to drive with these faults can lead to:
      • Significant loss of power
      • Increased fuel consumption
      • Potential strain on the inverter or combustion engine
In some cases, the vehicle may enter “limp-home mode,” severely restricting speed to protect the drivetrain. To avoid causing secondary damage to other components, it is best to have the vehicle inspected immediately.

Yes, Greentec Auto offers a complimentary initial diagnostic service for hybrid system faults. If your dashboard is showing a “Check Hybrid System” warning or you have retrieved a specific fault code, our specialists can scan your vehicle to provide an accurate assessment of the issue without an initial fee.
